Contemporary Jazz Workshop
Contemporary Jazz Workshop (NFC) The musical city of Salzburg is an idea location for this exciting workshop that will cover several aspects of jazz including styles, concepts and ear training, but with the majority of studies geared toward improvisation. In depth analysis of modal scales, substitute chords, altered progressions, and the Dorian, Mixolydian, and Aeolian Modes, will be ofered in individual private studies, with Professor Koss demonstrating the improvisational techniques himself. The workshop is offered to all instruments of the jazz idiom, and is directed toward the beginner to intermediate student. Special
studies courses will be offered for the advanced student and professional musician. Those students wanting the experience have the opportunity to perform publicly with Greg in one of Salzburg’s premiere Jazz clubs. This experience not only helps in developing improvisational skills but also helps to enhance ones confdence and professionalism. Included in the course will be a clinic given by Austrian trumpeter Lee Harper, one of Europe’s most popular performing and recording artists and clinicians. The lecture will be based upon practicing techniques and styles in developing improvisational skills.

Professor Gregory E. Koss, composer, arranger and trumpeter has been hailed throughout the country by jazz educators as well as jazz critics for his skills, swing, and the fresh perspective that has been associated with his music. His recorded album Greg Koss: Sound Factory has received national recognition
from such greats as Dr. Herb Wong, Past President of the National Association of Jazz Educators to Marian McPartland, world renown jazz pianist and critic. Greg has preformed in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and New York City with entertainers Tony Bennett, Wayne Newton, Bobby Vinton, Glen Campbell, Vic Damone, Debbie
Reynolds, Lola Falana, Rita Moreno, Suzzanne Sommers, Joan Rivers, and others. He has performed Jazz Concerts, HBO performances, and at Jazz Clubs throughout the M.S.A. and Europe with Doc Severinsen, Harold Land, Cat Anderson, Snooky Young, and Blood, Sweat and Tears. REQUIREMENTS & ADDITIONAL FEES
This workshop is open to all those interested in instrumental Jazz music performance. The Workshop fees (NFC) are: $500 billed by and payable to CSA (all fees due prior to departure). Additional fees: Approximately $60 to purchase tickets to concert performances, exhibitions, entrance fees into museums, Mozart’s birth house and various points of musical interest.
